Compton ready for Catterick glory

Mick Easterby’s Compton Plume has the credentials to supplement a recent course and distance victory with another success in the Nidd Classified Stakes at Catterick tomorrow.

The five-year-old has been dealt some very poor hands of late in terms of the draw, finding himself berthed on the outside at Catterick tice and then drawn low at Beverley last time.

Despite his bad luck, he managed to win at Catterick at the beginning of the month and was only beaten two lengths at Beverley last time, when appearing to face an impossible task.

These performances suggest the son of Compton Place is on great terms with himself, and that he is potentially a cut above his rivals here.

Tanforan is progressing nicely for Lynda Ramsden and is fancied to make it three wins from his last four starts when contesting the Derwent Handicap.

He was a cosy winner over course and distance last month and signalled he is still on the upgrade with a game win at Chester when taking on his elders last time.

Unsurprisingly, he has been raised in the weights for that success but he still looks well handicapped off just a 3lb higher mark, and is certainly capable of making his presence felt against his peers on a track that obviously suits.

There are few shrewder handlers than Sir Mark Prescott, and punters should be keen to support his Sunlit Skies now she steps up in trip for her handicap debut in the Army Benevolent Fund Fillies’ Handicap at Brighton.

The daughter of Selkirk has not set the world alight in three runs in maiden company so far, but she has been pitched in at a realistic level here and a much more prominent display would hardly surprise.

The step up in trip looks sure to suit and if she handles the undulations, she looks likely to give a good account.

Pearl’s A Singer was looking to land a hat-trick last time but slipped and fell in the incident that ended Robert Winston’s season at Ayr.

She had previously looked progressive, following up a close second at Leicester with a comfortable win at Catterick and a narrow success on her handicap debut over course and distance.

Provided her recent ordeal has not knocked her confidence, she holds sound claims on a specialist’s track she is already proven on.

Music To My Ears was a useful bumper performer and novice hurdler in 2003 and now appears to be hitting the right notes in the chasing sphere.

He makes considerable appeal turned out quickly under a penalty in the Daily Record Handicap Chase at Perth, where he will be seeking a hat-trick.

Jonjo O’Neill’s charge was a lucky winner of a novices handicap chase at Market Rasen last year but was extremely impressive when scoring with any amount in hand at Stratford recently, and looks the sort that punters should keep firmly on their side.

Malcolm Jefferson’s Dewasentah has been making a name for herself in novice hurdles this season and looks sure to go well in the SIS Handicap Hurdle.

The daughter of Supreme Leader has already scored at Uttoxeter twice and Market Rasen this season, but arguably ran her best race when second in good company at Stratford last time, where a pedestrian early pace counted against her.

That effort confirmed she is still improving and is in good form, and she looks likely to give punters another good run for their money.
