Sanders still in title race

Seb Sanders insists the jockeys’ championship is not a two-horse race between Robert Winston and Jamie Spencer.

The highly-rated rider is currently an 11-4 chance with SportingOdds.com to be crowned leading Flat jockey, but is 11 winners behind Winston, who begins the day with 96 victories to his name.

Spencer is on 90 for the season while Sanders has had 85 winners this term.

Sanders, who is first choice for Sir Mark Prescott’s yard, remains bullish about his chances of winning the jockeys’ championship – but acknowledges the next month will be pivotal.

“Robert’s riding well and getting the rub of the green at the moment but it just depends which way the pendulum swings really,” he said.

“I’m getting ammunition off the boss (Prescott) now because he’s starting to run his horses, but it’s going to be tough.

“At the end of this month we’ll know a little more.

“I’m 11 behind at the moment but I don’t think that’s a mountain to climb at this stage of the season,” he told At The Races.
