Phoenix Reach is back on course for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes after recovering from a minor setback at the weekend.

The five-year-old suffered a bad reaction to treatment for a bout of colic which put his participation in doubt.

However, trainer Andrew Balding reports the horse to be back in good health and on target for Newbury next week.

Balding told the Racing Post: “He is very bright and very well.

“We have had to reschedule his training programme but he seems none the worse and is absolutely bouncing. He is back on course for the King George.”

Phoenix Reach was last seen in action when finishing second in the Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji in May.
