Anak heads 54 in Plate

Dual Chester Cup winner Anak Pekan heads a list of 54 horses left in Saturday’s John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at yesterday’s five-day stage.

Michael Jarvis’ five-year-old will have to shoulder top weight of 9st 10lb if he runs at Newcastle as both Mr Dinos and Fight Your Corner have been taken out after running in the Ascot Gold Cup last week.

Last year’s winner Mirjan is set to take his chance again for trainer Lenny Lungo, while Saturday’s Queen Alexandra Stakes winner Cruzspiel could make a quick reappearance for trainer James Fanshawe.

Sendintank could make his seasonal bow after notching up 10 wins on the turf and all-weather for Stuart Williams last year, while Aidan O’Brien could send Ascot Stakes third Coconut Beach.

Alan Swinbank’s Far Pavilions is also confirmed, along with Howard Johnson’s Balyan, a €200,000 purchase out of John Oxx’s yard last October.
