Fastnet Rock retired

Australian speedster Fastnet Rock has been retired after failing to recover from a bout of travel sickness following his arrival in England.

Trainer Paul Perry had hoped to run the four-year-old sprinter at next week’s Royal Ascot at York meeting before going onto the July Cup.

However, Perry was forced to rule the Sue Magnier-owned colt out the Royal meeting earlier this week and despite optimism that he would make Newmarket, time has run out to have him fully prepared.

“The horse is looking and feeling great but hasn’t recovered 100% from the bout of travel sickness he picked up on the journey here,” said Perry’s son Shannon.

“Unfortunately we’ve lost the race against time to have him ready for Ascot and for the July Cup at Newmarket so he’ll retire straight to Coolmore Australia.

“As everyone in Australia knows, he’s a truly brilliant sprinter so it’s a great pity he wasn’t able to prove it up here.”
