Boogie streets ahead

Boogie Street landed back-to-back victories in the Empire Property Group Stakes at Goodwood today.

The Richard Hannon-trained four-year-old was always travelling sweetly in a race better known as the Achilles Stakes and run at Kempton as stablemate If Paradise took the field along in company with One Putra and Corridor Creeper.

Richard Hughes’ mount was one of four in a line at the furlong pole and the 5-2 favourite stuck to his guns well inside the closing stages to hold Jimmy Ryan by a neck with Indian Maiden a further one and a quarter lengths away in third.

The King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot at York will be next for Boogie Street and Hughes said: "He was always going extremely well but he wasn't fully fit today and with the strong headwind we decided to drop him in. He’s only ever won from the front and it was nice to ride him differently.”

And referring to the King’s Stand, he added: “Quick ground at York and let him rattle would be ideal. I tipped this horse to be a top sprinter last year but he didn’t get the ground he wanted.”

Eisteddfod defied top-weight to justify strong market support in the six-furlong Empire Property Group Stakes.

The 5-1 joint-favourite burst through late in the day under Jimmy Fortune to take the spoils by one and a quarter lengths from Viking Spirit.

High Reach was the same distance away in third with the other market leader Out After Dark fourth.

VCbet cut the winner to 12-1 from 20s for the Wokingham at the Royal meeting.
