Balmont to get Dettori touch
Balmont, who was third in last season’s July Cup, will have the assistance of Frankie Dettori for the first time when he reappears at Newmarket tomorrow in the Blandford Bloodstock Abernant Stakes.
The four-year-old colt, who faces a rematch with July Cup second Ashdown Express, was just two lengths behind Frizzante on what was his first run for nine months, having had a setback after his juvenile campaign.
Under Pat Eddery, he won the Middle Park Stakes as a juvenile and returns to Headquarters for the six-furlong Listed contest, which has attracted a field of 10.
Noseda told his website, www.jeremynoseda.com: “I’ve been happy with his progress this spring and it will be interesting to see how he starts his campaign. Frankie Dettori will take the ride on him.”
2003 Prix de l’Abbaye winner Patavellian, who was also Group One placed last season, is another set to make his seasonal reappearance.
The Kiddykid, who was second in Doncaster’s Cammidge Trophy and Hughie Morrison’s course-and-distance winner Ruby Rocket are other notable entries.
