Bailey considers Ayr for Longshanks
Longshanks could make a quick reappearance in the Gala Casinos Daily Record Scottish Grand National next weekend after his pleasing performance in the John Smith’s And Spar Topham Chase last Friday.
Kim Bailey had wanted to run the gelding in the Aintree version of the Grand National, but he did not quite make the cut and had to go for consolation over the same fences in the Topham.
Over a trip that was too short for him, Longshanks was still in the lead at the last and kept on to take fourth behind Cregg House, an achievement that may have earned him a chance to run at Ayr.
The Northamptonshire trainer told his website, www.kcbaileyracing.com: “I am pleased to say that Longshanks has returned safe and sound after his great run in the Topham.
“We might now be tempted to declare him for the Scottish National next Saturday, at least we can have a look and see how the race and horse pans out during the week.”
