Today’s sole National Hunt fixture at Ludlow will take place as expected after clerk of the course Bob Davies passed the track fit for racing following an early-morning inspection.

Officials at the track were not planning to inspect, but heavy rain yesterday evening forced them into having a precautionary check.

“We are on, it was just the fact we had 17 millimetres of rain yesterday evening that we didn’t expect,” said Davies. “We knew we would get some but not that much – it was torrential.

“There have been 60 millimetres in the last 48 hours but it has been mainly dry since 8.30pm yesterday evening and we are only forecast the odd shower today, which isn’t a worry.”

The going at Ludlow is soft, heavy in places on the chase course and heavy, soft in places on the hurdles track.
