Kinane ready for Roy mount

Mick Kinane is set to ride leading UltimatePoker.com 2000 Guineas candidate Rob Roy should Michael Stoute’s charge reappear in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket on April 14.

The Irishman was on hand at headquarters yesterday to partner the once-raced Lear Fan colt as he went through his paces on the across-the-flat gallop.

And Rob Roy is a 12-1 chance for next month’s Guineas having come home two and a half lengths clear from 22 rivals on his debut at Newmarket last October.

“There is a long way to go but it is so far so good and I will ride him in the Craven,” Kinane told the Racing Post. “The ground was still loose on top but it was nice ground for horses to work on.”

However, Stoute was uncommitted as to whether Rob Roy will run in the Newmarket Classic trial and questioned the form of his maiden success.

“The form hasn’t worked out that well – his next two pieces of work will be crucial and we will have to see how it goes before we make any plans,” added Stoute.
