Frost worry for Newbury

Newbury have called a 7.30am inspection tomorrow ahead of their afternoon meeting.

Temperatures dropped well below freezing at the Berkshire track last night and another heavy frost is forecast for tonight.

Clerk of the course Richard Osgood said: “We had a heavier frost than expected last night and temperatures went down to minus three.

“We are forecast another heavy frost tonight with the possibility of temperatures of minus five so we have called a 7.30am inspection.

“Should conditions deteriorate during the course of the day we may take an earlier look, possibly later this afternoon.”

Tomorrow’s meeting at Newbury is the first of their two-day fixture but prospects are looking much brighter for Saturday’s racing.

Osgood added: “It’s looking much better for Saturday because the temperatures are forecast to get up to plus six tomorrow with only a light frost overnight.”
