Robert Winston has asserted his innocence after being arrested as part of the on-going City Of London Police investigation into alleged race-fixing.

Winston became the fifth jockey to be arrested and bailed in connection with the investigation when voluntarily going to a police station in York last Wednesday after officers had called at his home while he was out.

He was back in action at Wolverhampton yesterday.

He told At The Races: “It was out of the blue. It was stressful and very embarrassing in a way, when you wake up in the morning and see the newspapers. Your name is plastered all over.

“To be honest, I’ve been pretty relaxed. All I want to do is get on with my job and hopefully ride my supporters plenty of winners.

“I’ve had plenty of knocks in the past and I can take them pretty well. I’m strong enough to overcome it all and bounce back.

“My conscience is very clear. My mind is focused on the job and I just want to forget the past and look to the future.”
