Swan three-handed in Gowran

Trainer Charlie Swan will launch a three-pronged attack on Thursday’s Goulding Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park with Lincam, Over The First and This Is Serious all set to take their chance.

The latter will be trying for a second win in the prestigious three-mile race as he was successful in 2002.

However, the 11-year-old, who has seven career wins to his credit, has been off the track since pulling up in the Troytown Handicap Chase in November 2003.

“This Is Serious will definitely need the run, but he is in great form and he does go well fresh. He handles the ground and obviously loves Gowran,” said Swan.

Swan’s other two runners both have more recent form with Lincam having run out an easy winner of a Punchestown beginners chase on his latest start.

Over The First was running a big race at Tramore last time until falling two fences from home in the Wilf Dooly Chase.

Swan is confident that both will handler the likely testing conditions at Gowran.

“Lincam must have every chance off a nice weight. He was impressive the last day and seems to be improving,” he said.

“Over The First took on Cloudy Bays up front the last day and paid the price. He loves testing ground and there are no doubts about the trip.”

The Alo Duffin Memorial Hurdle is the highlight of the undercard at Gowran and Tom Taaffe reports Emotional Moment to be on course.

The eight-year-old will be bidding to follow up an impressive success in the Grade Two Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown last month.

Taaffe said: “He is in great form and worked well at the weekend.

“He goes there with every chance, although some of the others did not run up to form the last day. All he could do was win.”
