Rayburn set for Power run
Colnel Rayburn is “90%” likely to stay in Ireland to contest the Paddy Power Chase on December 27 rather than go for the Coral Welsh National a day later.
The eight-year-old is a generally available 16-1 shot for Chepstow’s competitive marathon, but trainer Paul Nolan would rather head to Leopardstown for what is shaping up to be an easier contest over a shorter trip.
“He is 90% sure to go for the Paddy Power rather than the Welsh National, as it is not so far to travel,” said the Wexford-based handler.
“To go to Chepstow for a race over three miles and five furlongs, a distance that he has never been over, is a tough test, so we are going to stay here.
“He would be on about 11st 4lb for the Paddy Power, which would be a nice racing weight, and the race doesn’t look near the race that the Welsh National looks, which even has Gold Cup candidates in.”
