Russian Rhythm retired

Cheveley Park Stud’s multiple Group One winner Russian Rhythm has been retired.

The Michael Stoute-trained winner of seven of her 10 starts, including four at the highest level, was in line for a comeback in Newmarket’s Sun Chariot Stakes on October 2, but suffered what was described by the stud’s managing director Chris Richardson as a “further setback”.

The daughter of Kingmambo won the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May, but was laid low afterwards and had recently failed to sparkle in her work.

Richardson paid tribute to the former 1000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes heroine, describing her as one of the best of her generation.

He said: “We have been so fortunate to have been associated with such a talented filly who, of late, has experienced some stiffness problems which mean she would not be ready for the Sun Chariot.”

Richardson also lauded Stoute and his team, jockey Kieren Fallon, his regular workrider Sally Eddery, Russian Rhythm’s groom Jane Saunders and head lad Jock Brown.

“All of whose contribution has played such a significant role in the thrill and success enjoyed by David and Patricia Thompson and all at Cheveley Park Stud, as well as her many supporters worldwide,” he said.
