Monet on course for France
Mister Monet will bid to stretch his winning run to four in the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville on Saturday.
Mark Johnston’s charge successfully stepped up into Pattern company when landing the Rose of Lancaster Stakes earlier this month, and looks set to have a crack at Group One level before the end of the season.
“He will run at Deauville,” Johnston told the Racing Post. “The race looks perfect for him. Then, he will go on to the Champion Stakes.
“The ground is soft and he hasn’t encountered that before, but there is no reason to think he won’t cope with it.
“He is a very versatile horse. I have no doubt he has speed for a mile, but if he was in the Arc I would be saying that he should go for that.”
The three-year-old has won his last two races at distances around 10 furlongs and faces a potential clash with other British challengers Lord Mayor and Cape Vincent.
