Doyen in top form after King George romp
Doyen is reported to be in top form this morning after his impressive success in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot yesterday.
The Godolphin four-year-old beat Hard Buck by three lengths in the midsummer highlight with stablemate Sulamani a further head back in third.
Simon Crisford, racing manager for Godolphin, reports the pair to be none the worse for their exertions.
He said: âThey are both absolutely fine. The King George is always a hard race but they have come back safe and sound.â
Connections are now considering dropping Doyen back in trip to 10 furlongs for the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 11 although the Sadlerâs Wells colt has not raced over less than a mile and a half since he was a two-year-old.
âDoyenâs in good form and now we will have to make and finalise plans for him in the next few weeks. We may well go to Ireland and we wouldnât be worried about dropping in trip,â explained Crisford.
Plans for Sulamani are up in the air with Crisford adding: âSulamani is fine and hopefully now we can find some suitable options for him in the next few months.â
