Orientor comes good for Fallon and Goldie
Jim Goldie’s 430-mile trip from his Glasgow base paid off when Kieren Fallon and Orientor ran away with the Group Three Champagne Laurent-Perrier Sprint Stakes at Sandown today.
Powering into the lead under Kieren Fallon over a furlong out, the 5-1 shot swept to victory by two and a half lengths from Ringmoor Down, with Colonel Cotton four lengths further away in third.
With the speed he showed, it was surprising that this was his first success over five furlongs.
“I was fairly confident. I think he’s been crying out for five all his life and we’ve been trying to slow him down,” said Goldie, who drove the horsebox down from Scotland himself yesterday.
“Kieren said he was the first out of the stalls and had to drag him back. He was always travelling well and was winning the race at four as well as five.”
Orientor could make a quick reappearance at Ascot next weekend, with Goldie also eyeing other big five-furlong prizes such as the Nunthorpe, the Flying Five and the Prix de l’Abbaye for his six-year-old.
