Walsh misses Wave National ride
Ruby Walsh will miss the ride on Exit To Wave in today’s Martell Cognac Grand National after breaking his wrist at Aintree yesterday.
Walsh took a heavy fall from the Paul Nicholls-trained Early Edition in the Martell Cognac Sainsbury’s Mildmay Novices’ Chase at the Merseyside track and was forced to sit out the last race.
However, it was later discovered Walsh had broken his wrist forcing him to miss the mount on the Nicholls-trained runner in today’s showpiece event.
His agent Jennifer Walsh said: “He’s broken his wrist. He will go and see his orthopaedic surgeon in Dublin on Monday and we will know much more then.”
Nicholls has confirmed Robbie McNally will take over on Exit To Wave, who is 40-1 chance with William Hill for the four-and-a-half mile marathon.
Walsh was also due to partner the well-fancied Thisthatandtother for the Ditcheat handler in the Martell Cognac Maghull Novices’ Chase and Sporazene in the Martell Cognac Aintree Hurdle.
Both of those runners will now be ridden by Joe Tizzard.
