Simply Supreme, trained by Sue Smith and ridden by Richard McGrath, has won the Martell Cognac Sainsbury's Mildmay Novices' Chase at Aintree today.

Simply Supreme spreadeagled the opposition in an incident-packed renewal of the Martell Cognac Sainsbury's Mildmay Novices' Chase.

Royal & SunAlliance Chase winner Rule Supreme unseated David Casey on the first circuit, while 5-2 favourite Royal Emperor and leader See You Sometime both came down at the 11th fence.

This left Simply Supreme at the head of affairs and he galloped home in splendid isolation to claim the Grade Two event at 13-2.

Richard McGrath, on the winner, stepped on the gas going down the far side for the final time and soon had his remaining rivals in trouble.

And after putting up a display of bold, accurate jumping, Simply Supreme came home 12 lengths clear of L’Aventure, with Double Honour a further 25 lengths back in third.
