Fallon dossier with Jockey Club
Officials at the Jockey Club today received the News Of The World dossier containing serious allegations concerning champion jockey Kieren Fallon.
In a four-page article described as the “sports scandal of the decade”, the newspaper alleged on Sunday that Fallon told undercover journalists before a race at Lingfield last week that eventual winner Rye would beat his mount Ballinger Ridge.
“The dossier from the News Of The World arrived this morning and is now now with Paul Scotney (director of security),” said public relations director John Maxse.
“What will happen from now is that we will study the tapes and transcripts from the dossier and decide from there how the inquiry will proceed.”
Fallon said in a TV interview earlier this week that claims of race-fixing were “completely ridiculous”.
And he said he repeatedly refused to accept any money or gifts for tips from undercover journalists, as that would have landed him in hot water with the racing authorities.
Irregular betting patterns on a betting exchange prompted the controversial defeat of Ballinger Ridge to be referred for investigation by the Jockey Club.
The horse was beaten a short head after Fallon eased down when well clear approaching the final furlong. He was banned for 21 days for the ride.
