Landiere without a partner

La Landiere is without a jockey for Saturday’s Racing Post Trophy after Warren Marston was ruled out through injury.

The mare was ridden by Marston when a three-length winner of the Grade Three event last year, but the jockey has been put on the sick list following a fall last weekend.

“I rode her in work during the week but I was sore afterwards,” Marston told the Racing Post. “I went to see Dr John Disney and he says that I have fractured three ribs. I will be out until next week.”

The rider came in for the mount after regular partner Richard Johnson decided to stick with the 2002 winner, and last year’s runner-up, Gunther McBride.

“It is disappointing,” added Marston. “A lot of effort has gone into the mare and you have to be open about it – you can’t rider her half-cocked.”

The nine-year-old has been well backed this week for the three-mile contest, with Marston reporting her to be hitting peak fitness.

“She is well in herself. She will be a dream ride for someone to pick up as she is very straightforward – she jumps well and she tries.”
