A £5m (€7m) refurbishment of Lingfield racecourse is to begin in the New Year.

Planning permission has been granted for the main grandstand to receive a complete and much-needed overhaul.

The aim is for modern and stylish facilities to complement the new Polytrack all-weather surface, which has proved a tremendous success.

Lingfield is Britain’s busiest racecourse, staging all-weather, turf Flat and National Hunt racing.

The project commences on January 5, with the main works due to be completed and the grandstand re-opened in time for the Lingfield Derby and Oaks Trial meeting on Saturday May 8.
