Frosty Newcastle delay inspection

Newcastle’s planned 7.30am inspection ahead of racing today has been put back to 9am.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong said: “There’s not a lot we could call at the moment because it’s white all over and we have got a hard frost.

“We need to just give it a chance to see what the temperature is going to do.

“We have got the advantage that the track hasn’t been raced on so far this season, so there are no divets or exposed areas of soil that are rutted, but there are areas where it has got in.

“Even at 4pm yesterday there were areas on the far side of the course that were still white, so we may struggle.”
