Oaks winner Casual Look retired
Vodafone Oaks heroine Casual Look has been retired following her defeat at Churchill Downs at the weekend, reports the thoroughbredtimes website.
The daughter of Red Ransom gave first-season trainer Andrew Balding an unforgettable day at Epsom in June when she just got up in a thrilling finish from Yesterday and Summitville to give him a first Classic success.
She then finished a close third in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh, before running down the field in the Yorkshire Oaks at York.
Owned by the American ambassador to Britain, Will Farish, she had her last European start in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp where she finished unplaced.
She then embarked on a career in the States in the care of Neil Howard but was out of luck on her two starts, although she did run with credit on both occasions.
“She may not have cared for the soft ground last time, but Casual Look still closed well and put in a very good effort at a distance that may not have been her best,” Howard said.
“She came out of the race perfectly and now Mr Farish has decided that her future is in the breeding shed.
“It was wonderful to have Casual Look in our stable for even a short time, and we’re very excited to see that she will be one of the first mares bred to Mineshaft.”
