Salmon set for Clonmel date

Beef Or Salmon could contest the Clonmel Oil Chase on November 20 after missing his intended run at Leopardstown yesterday.

The seven-year-old, winner of the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup and the Ericsson Chase last season, had been due to have a spin on the Flat in the Leopardstown November Handicap.

However, trainer Michael Hourigan was unhappy with the good going at the track and pulled the gelding out.

“He’s Ok, it was just the weather – the ground was bit quick for him. You don’t get a horse like that everyday so you’ve got to watch him,” he explained.

Hourigan is now considering a crack at the Grade Two event at Clonmel later this month – a race that Beef Or Salmon won last year.

“We’ll wait for the rain but the Clonmel Oil Chase could be the plan,” he added.
