Murtagh lodges appeal against seven-day ban

Johnny Murtagh has lodged an appeal with the Turf Club here against a seven-day suspension that would rule him out of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.

He was handed the ban, that runs from October 1 to 7 inclusive, for making insufficient effort on Edward Lynam’s newcomer Dangle in the EMS Civil Engineering EBF Maiden at the Curragh on Sunday.

Murtagh put up 2lb overweight on 6-1 shot Dangle, who was beaten just under two lengths in fifth place by the Aidan O’Brien-trained winner Amalie Bay, the evens favourite.

The Clonsilla, Co Dublin trainer has also lodged an appeal against the €750 fine for using the racecourse as a training ground.

The horse has been banned from running for six weeks.

No date has been set for the hearing but it is likely to be held in the next week.
