Ascot next for Russian Rhythm
Connections of Russian Rhythm have nominated the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot a week on Saturday as the next outing for their star filly.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained daughter of Kingmambo landed the Sagitta 1000 Guineas on her seasonal debut and followed up in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Both those events were over a mile, the same trip as the QEII, but she showed she has stamina too when taking the Nassau Stakes last time over 10 furlongs.
She had been thought likely to head for the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp but Stoute told the Racing Post: "We're aiming for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes with Russian Rhythm.
"We will, as always, take it one step at a time and we haven't discussed the Breeders' Cup yet."
Chris Richardson, managing director of owners Cheveley ark Stud, said: "Sir Michael was delighted with her work on Saturday and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is the preferred option - the Prix de l'Opera is a week later and by then the ground may be on the easy side.
"We want to keep her in training next year, so it's unlikely that she'll go for the Breeders' Cup - but there's always next year for that option."
