Seeker set to return to Ascot

New Seeker could bid to follow up his Royal Ascot win back at the Berkshire track next month.

The Clive Cox-trained three-year-old defied a supposedly unfavourable draw on the far rail to land the Britannia Stakes by a neck from Helm Bank at odds of 16-1.

And he has been raised 8lb to a new mark of 95 following that effort.

“We have actually made an entry today for the Tote International (on July 26) but we’ll just have to see what the top-rated horse is there really and decide from there,” Cox said.

“Obviously we are going to have to pick our way in handicaps but he’s come out of the race well and we’ve got a week or two to think about it.”

New Seeker made all at the head of the small group that stayed on the far side in the Britannia and he just held on to repel Helm Bank.

“It was no more than a solo piece of work really,” Cox said.

New Seeker made a real impact when he won at Newmarket at the Guineas meeting but was a shade disappointing when only third at York after a quick reappearance.

“In hindsight I probably went back too soon with him and the ground was exceedingly firm that day,” Cox said.

“He’s still only just learning the job to be honest.

“A stiff seven will suit him, if you draw a line through the race the other day at the furlong pole he was well clear. I’m not worried about going back a furlong, he’s got bags of speed.

“We’ll have consultations with the owners over the next week and decide where we’re going.”
