Morris hopes Mamcazma can take Newcastle win
Dave Morris is hopeful of a good run from Mamcazma in the John Smith’s Northumberland Plate at Newcastle on Saturday.
The five-year-old has yet to get his head in front this season but has run well on all his three starts.
The trainer, who won the ‘Pitmen’s Derby’ with Bay Of Islands three years ago, told the Racing Post:
“Mamcazma's best distance is probably a mile and six, but he’s in very good form.
“He’s unlucky not to have won at least once this term, having got touched off a couple of times, and he’s not really been getting the run of his races.
“Ideally, he needs to be held up until inside the final furlong but, given a good slot during the race and a trouble-free passage in the closing stages, he’d have a fair chance.”
Mamcazma is a best-priced 14-1 for the race.
