Richard McGrath, who broke a cheekbone in two places at Sedgefield last month, hopes to be back in action on Wednesday week.

McGrath sustained the injury when his mount Sweet Sensation was cannoned into by another horse and he was unseated at the first fence in the carpettile.co.uk Mares Only Handicap Hurdle at the Durham course.

He said: “So that I would not be left with a scar on my face they got in at the broken bones and set them from around my temple area – it did not sound very pleasant when they said what they were going to do but it has done the trick and I will just be left with some marks on my head.

“I have got a black left eye, but everything seems to be healing up fine and the plan is to start race-riding again at Perth on May 14.”
