McCoy set for another top award
Record breaking Irish jump jockey Tony McCoy faces stiff competition as he bids to win a record sixth Lesters award which will be presented at the 13th Channel 4 attheraces sponsored event at London’s Hilton Hotel on April 13.
McCoy’s three rivals for the Jump Jockey of the Year title include dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Jim Culloty, leading northern-based pilot Tony Dobbin and Timmy Murphy who won the Hennessy on Beef Or Salmon having overcome personal problems which included a period of imprisonment.
As well as his spell-binding performances on board Best Mate in the last two runnings of the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup, Culloty for whom this is a debut nomination, also landed the 2002 Martell Cognac Grand National on board Bindaree.
Meanwhile, the Flat Jockey of the Year title will be fought out by current holder Kieren Fallon, former champion and past Lesters winner Kevin Darley, Richard Hughes and Seb Sanders both of whom have received nominations previously.
