Dettori's busy Sunday

Frankie Dettori has seven rides booked on the Hong Kong Derby card at Sha Tin on Sunday, including Helene Momentum in the mile-and-a-quarter feature.

One of four David Hayes runners, Helene Momentum has won impressively at the Sha Tin circuit.

Formerly known as Portsmouth when raced in Australia, the import, drawn 12 of 14, also boasts stakes-winning form in Australia.

Hayes, yet to win the Derby, also relies on Beverly Green (ex Masani), Equator Kid and the only filly in the field, Elegant Fashion.

The latter ran a blinder in the Hong Kong Gold Cup when a three-quarters of a length third to 2002 Hong Kong Mile hero Olympic Express.

Ivan Allan, seeking a fourth success in the classic, runs three horses and ultra-consistent Hong Kong Classic Mile hero Self Flit may prove his best chance.

David Oughton’s Bowman’s Crossing, a close second in the Hong Kong Classic Mile, is another contender.

Christophe Soumillon also flies in from Europe to ride Himalaya for Lawrie Fownes in the same race.

Dettori’s list of mounts includes Firebolt in the Centenary Cup – the second leg of the Hong Kong Sprint Triple Crown – and Charming City in the Chairman’s Trophy over a mile.

Those races respectively carry domestic Group One and Two status.
