Aidan O'Brien and Kevin Darley combined once again to win the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster when favourite Brian Boru got on top of stablemate Powerscourt close home to land the Group One.

The son of Sadler's Wells followed in the footsteps of High Chaparral 12 months ago with a determined display at Town Moor.

He looked trapped for room with two furlongs to run but the gap appeared at the right time and he went about tackling George Duffield's mount.

It gave the Ballydoyle handler his second success on the card after MiGuel Cervantes took the opener.
