O'Brien sets sights on Cox Plate

A host of British and Irish trainers, including Aidan O’Brien, have set their sights on Melbourne’s Carlton Draught Cox Plate on October 27 according to the initial entry list.

A host of British and Irish trainers, including Aidan O’Brien, have set their sights on Melbourne’s Carlton Draught Cox Plate on October 27 according to the initial entry list.

Of the 23 overseas entries for the Australian leg of the World Series, 11 emanate from the British Isles with a further trio from Godolphin who are classed as representing Dubai.

Singapore Cup winner Grandera has been nominated by Godolphin, who could also be represented by Noverre and Masterful.

Breeders’ Cup Mile third Bach could represent O’Brien in the 10-furlong event while the Dermot Weld-trained Jazz Beat and Mutakarrim could also fly Down Under from Ireland.

David Elsworth has already indicated Indian Creek will participate and he could be joined by Golden Silca and Imperial Dancer from Mick Channon’s West Ilsley yard, Kaieteur (Brian Meehan), No Excuse Needed (Sir Michael Stoute), Pole Star (James Fanshawe), Chancellor (Barry Hills) and Hawkeye (Michael Jarvis).
