Wannabe Around, runner-up to Riberac in the William Hill Mile last summer, could bid to go one better in the £100,000 event at Glorious Goodwood next month.

Wannabe Around, runner-up to Riberac in the William Hill Mile last summer, could bid to go one better in the £100,000 event at Glorious Goodwood next month.

The four-year-old was among 62 entries published today for the Showcase Handicap that has been switched from its traditional Thursday slot to Friday, August 2.

Wannabe Around, trained at Epsom by Terry Mills, is joint second top weight on 9st 9lb compared to the 9st 1lb he carried last time.

Others hoping to improving on their position in 2001 are the third Little Amin (7st 13lb), the fifth Muchea (8st) and 16th Calcutta (8st 9lb).

On the same weight as Wannabe Around is Godolphin’s sole entry Divine Task, winner of the Group Three Jebel Hatta at Nad Al Sheba.

Top of the handicap on 9st 10lb is the Richard Hannon-trained Priors Lodge.

Mark Johnston, who has taken this prize with Riberac (2001) and Fly To The Stars (1997), has three entries - Bouncing Bowdler (9st 2lb), Atlantic Quest (7st 7lb) and Takes Tutu (7st 5lb).

The trainer with the most entries is Thirsk handler David Nicholls with five - Scotty’s Future (8st 12lb), Mana-Mou Bay (7st 13lb), Arpeggio (7st 1lb), Hormuz (7st 1lb) and True Night (6st 10lb).

Other entries include James Fanshawe’s impressive Sandown winner Heretic (9st 4lb) and four-times course winner Omaha City (9st).
