Aidan O’Brien made history when becoming the first trainer to saddle the winners of the English, French and Irish Guineas in the same season when Rock Of Gibraltar scored for Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson at the Curragh today.

Rock Of Gibraltar, sent off the 4-7 favourite, was the first horse to complete the Newmarket-Curragh double since Rodrigo De Triano in 1992 when cruising home under Michael Kinane.

The seven runners tacked over to the stands’ side once in the straight and Kinane was content to sit at the back of the field as Century City set sail for home.

But he did not panic and his mount soon made up the leeway and appreciating the rain-softened ground Rock Of Gibraltar hit the front inside the final furlong to win hard held by a length and a half from stable companions Century City and Della Francesca to give O’Brien a one-two-three in the Classic for the second year running.
