Horse Racing: Gallagher discharged from hospital
Smurfit Champion Hurdle-winning jockey Dean Gallagher has been discharged from hospital after narrowly escaping serious injury in a crashing fall at Wetherby on Tuesday.
Storm Tiger, his mount in the wetherbyracing.co.uk Handicap Chase, blundered at the fourth-last fence and Gallagher, who was hurled head first into the ground, was attended by paramedics for more than 10 minutes before being stretchered into the ambulance.
He was taken immediately to Leeds General Infirmary for further investigation and kept in overnight for observation.
However, a hospital spokeswoman on Wednesday morning confirmed the rider had been discharged.
Gallagher, who recorded a famous victory on Hors La Loi III in the hurdlers' crown at last month's Cheltenham Festival, was knocked out in the incident and remained unconscious for around five minutes.
