Katy P should take plenty of beating

Katy P looks the best bet on tonight’s seven-race national hunt card at Clonmel. On her debut, in April, Jessica Harington’s filly was sent off favourite for a bumper at Cheltenham, and ran well to finish third behind Hitherjacques Lady.

On the back of that effort she had plenty of supporters when running at Tipperary a fortnight ago, but again had to settle for third place. Held up for much of the trip, she made an impressive move to get into contention shortly after turning for home but, on the back of that, was unable to find that little bit extra required in the last few yards.

However, she lost little in defeat behind two previous winners and, barring one of the newcomers is very smart, she should take a world of beating. One such debutant of some interest is Quinnsborotemptres, who represents the powerful Gordon Elliott stable.

Capture The Drama can continue his good run of form by taking the Clonmel Show Sunday July 3 Handicap Chase for Aengus King. Clearly in much better form since his soft-palate operation, he caused a 100-1 upset when landing a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park in March and, on his recent return to chasing, made the most of a mark of 69, at Tramore.

He has been raised a stone for that success, but had plenty in hand on that occasion and looks capable of defying the handicapper’s penalty. Even with the extra 14lb, he has plenty to spare relative to his hurdling mark and everything about his most recent effort suggests he should be able to go close once more.

On Fiddlers Green can take the Sporting Press Beginners’ Chase for Henry De Bromhead. Formerly with Eddie Hales, he made his debut for his new stable at Kilbeggan, where he finished a never-dangerous fourth behind Glenwood For Ever. That was in handicap company, running off a mark of 120 and, now back to beginners’ level, the six-year-old can make his considerable experience over fences count.

Blessed King was a touch frustrating over hurdles, but could improve for the switch to fences. He can give the selection most to think about.
