Today's Tips: Monarch can make amends in maiden at Gowran Park
This Aidan O’Brien-trained Galileo colt started favourite for his debut in Limerick last month and, having raced prominently, tired late before finishing third to Maneen, successful off a mark of 89 in a three-year-old handicap at the Curragh on Sunday.
Monarch was sent off an uneasy favourite for a mile maiden in Killarney last week.
But he encountered a succession of traffic problems in the straight before finally seeing daylight and running on well but failing by a short-head to catch St.Gallen.
The selection had a 79-rated rival a length back in third and, having been denied a clear run, is clearly better than that bare form suggests.
Although far from being one of the stars in Ballydoyle Monarch will be helped by a low draw here and, with better luck this time, should open his account in the hands of Donnacha O’Brien.
Seamus Heffernan will be on board Monarch’s stable-companion Earring in the later fillies maiden and, although she was beaten fourteen lengths on her debut at Navan, the Dansili filly should show significant improvement and prove be tough to beat.
The Summer Festival Rated Race looks a trappy affair, with Mulligatawny and Reckless Endeavour closely matched on their form behind the unbeaten Long Island Sound in Dundalk.
But they might struggle to cope with Mizaah, emphatic winner of a six-furlong Curragh maiden last time and open to further improvement for the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas-winning combination of Kevin Prendergast, Hamdan Al Maktoum and Chris Hayes.
Elusive In Paris should make a bold bid to follow-up last week’s Killarney success in the first division of the Cat Laughs Goes Racing Handicap.
