Foot Solution wins Irish Cup

Foot Solution, owned by the Troy Murphy Syndicate from Kildare, nominated by Leo Walsh, and bred by Con Guiney from Meelin, Co. Cork took the €40,000 prize when winning the Irish Cup at Limerick Racecourse yesterday.

Foot Solution wins Irish Cup

In the final he defeated the Thomas O’Donovan, Cork, owned and Terry Corden nominated puppy Drive On Smokey, who won his trial stake at Millstreet.

The winner had a bye in the quarter-final when Duargle Darwin was withdrawn while Not Caught Yet created a minor upset when putting out Kyle Bruce by a length in his course.

At the bottom of the draw Drive On Smokey overcame All The Music by a length while the hot favourite Blades of Hope proved four lengths faster than the puppy Crafty Gonzalo, but got four turns in the course.

In the first semi-final Not Caught Yet took control from slips against Foot Solution, and from where I saw it looked to have held on by a neck as Foot Solution closed, but the judge pulled in favour of the latter, a decision that did not meet with universal approval.

Drive On Smokey then created a major upset when racing away from Blades of Hope for a six lengths win at the escape .

In the decider Drive of Smokey led for most of the way but was caught in the closing stages by Foot Solution and beaten two lengths.

There was a Cork success in the Bill Chawke Irish Plate when Miss Chloe Bowen’s (Carrignavar) puppy Glenbower Junior, who won his trial stake at Rathcormac, and was nominated by John Boyle, took the honours when getting the better of Vincent & Kieran Purtill’s (Crecora) At All Times, nominated by Jimmy Quinn.
