Brilliant Mulcahys Hill turns on style for the annual Tallow point-to-point meeting

All roads led to Conna yesterday for the annual Tallow point-to-point meeting and Mulcahys Hill lit up the meeting by posting a scintillating frontrunning performance for the in-form Martin Hassett stable to claim victory in the four-year-old maiden.

Brilliant Mulcahys Hill turns on style for the annual Tallow point-to-point meeting

The Brian Boru-sired newcomer Mulcahys Hill (6/1) always travelled with purpose for Ciaran Fennessy and took command after the third last.

Despite a blunder at the last fence, six lengths separated him from runner-up Beneagles.

Hassett said:”This horse is as tough and nails and he’s electric to jump. He will now probably go the Cheltenham sale later this month.”

Jeannie Cook, a native of upper state New York, partnered her third points winner aboard her boyfriend Paul Power’s Sizing Australia (4/1) in the open lightweight.

The 14-year-old Sizing Australia, winner of the 2011 renewal of the Glenfarclas cross-country chase at the Cheltenham Festival for Henry de Bromhead, moved past fellow veteran Glenwood Knight after the penultimate of the 14 obstacles to oblige by nine lengths.

The Terence O’Brien-trained Take A Twirl destroyed the opposition under a confident Pat Collins in the five and six-year-old mares’ maiden.

Kilcolman Hill (4/1) vindicated the promise of his fourth-placed return effort at Killeagh three weeks earlier by landing the concluding six-year-old and upwards geldings’ maiden with his handler Eugene O’Sullivan’s 19-year-old son Eoin.

The towering Paul (6/1), trained by Denis Murphy for his partner Maria Byrne, caused a mild upset in the five-year-old geldings’ maiden.

Favourite Brindacier Fatal gave an exhibition of fencing on his career debut and he appeared the most likely winner from the second last.

However, Paul was making progress the whole time and he stormed into the lead for Jimmy O’Rourke on the approach to the final fence to dismiss fellow French-bred Brindacier Fatal by two lengths.

Owner/trainer/breeder Dr Joe O’Keeffe from Tallow, one of the doctors on duty at the meeting, was on the mark with Wayupinthebox (4/1 – 6/4) in the confined hunt maiden for novice riders.
