Denis Lynch needs two good results to qualify for final
The 17 points earned by the Tipperary rider saw him slot in at 33rd on the Western European League, meaning good results in the last two qualifiers are required if he is to qualify for the final in Gothenburg at the end of March.
Germany’s Niklas Krieg, aged 22, was the surprise winner of yesterday’s competition, giving a masterclass that saw him jump clear in 38.04 seconds on his medal-winning horse from the 2014 and 2015 European Championships for young riders, Carella 5.
Lynch put in a determined effort with All Star 5 to conjure up one of only three double clears, but he fell three seconds short of the Krieg’s target.
Wexford’s Bertram Allen also made the jump-off, but put up eight faults with Molly Malone V.
On Saturday, Lynch finished third with Garkus Van Het Indihof in a six-bar class, four-faulting in the fourth round.
On Friday, Dermott Lennon produced a clear with Loughview Lou Lou to place fourth in the 1.50mtr speed class.
The Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida was again hit by bad weather yesterday, with the venue in Wellington under “tornado watch”.
