The Charles O’Brien-trained two-year-old was very slow to get going on debut but caught the eye finishing to good effect in a Leopardstown maiden won by Tanaza.
While that was on good ground and today’s conditions will be very different, this represents a significantly easier task and if she has taken a step forward for that experience she’ll be very hard to beat.
The obvious danger is Dewdrop, who was last on debut but finished a more promising fourth of seven behind Glamorous Approach on her next start.
She was heavily gambled on the latter occasion, but never really looked like getting on top at any stage.
She’s likely capable of better, but doesn’t set an exacting standard on what she has achieved thus far, and may struggle to cope with Rose Of Tralee.
Expreso Brasileiro catches the eye in the Feale Handicap, and the unexposed colt can land the spoils for trainer Willie McCreery.
He showed promise in one run last year, and wasn’t disgraced on any of his three outings thus far this term.
Last time out, from a wide draw at Roscommon, he was dropped in and brought across to the inside rails.
He travelled noticeably well but was always likely to struggle for room from his position.
Stopped in his run a couple of times, he was switched wide late, and stayed on strongly to finish eight, beaten just five lengths, behind Zakhrafa, who re-opposes on 7lbs worse terms.
While not ideally drawn, in 11, he is completely unexposed, goes on testing ground and, if getting a decent position early, should go very close.
Bob’s The Business is also very interesting, given he ran so well off today’s mark on similar ground at this track.
Landofhopeandglory justified heavy support when making a successful debut at the Galway Festival, and can follow up in the valuable Premier Nursery.
The form of the race has been let down somewhat by the subsequent efforts of the vanquished, but the winner was far more authoritative than the neck winning distance would suggest.
It takes a very talented sort to make a winning start at Ballybrit, and it’s reasonable to expect he has improved significantly for the experience. Well-drawn and with the assistance of Donnacha O’Brien, he should prove hard to beat here.
