Waterloo Bridge can begin to justify lofty price tag
The Zoffany colt, a 350,000 Guineas yearling purchase, hasn’t looked entirely straight forward in his three starts to date.
But he boasts rock-solid form and should prove a cut above his six rivals.
Green on his debut behind Mimicking at the Curragh, Waterloo Bridge then finished third behind arguably the two best two-year-old colts in the country, Round Two and Argentero at Naas.
Since then, Round Two won the listed Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh while Argentero landed Monday’s Rochestown Stakes in Naas.
And Waterloo Bridge, held well off the pace in a first-time hood, came through to fill second spot behind classy filly Most Beautiful in Navan last Saturday.
Taking a short price about Waterloo Bridge mightn’t appeal to everyone. But he is undoubtedly he form pick.
Jessica Harrington’s Barnacle Bill shaped with plenty of promise on his debut at Leopardstown last month, staying on late to finish third behind Bondi Beach, just a length behind Bantry Bay, who went on to win his maiden at the Curragh in convincing style, and with Listowel winner Knocknagree over six lengths behind.
With normal improvement, this grey Big Bad Bob colt should be tough to beat in the median auction maiden.
Penalised just 6lb for her six lengths defeat of Stony Grey (in the field again) at Roscommon, Dancingwithangels has solid claims for Tom and Rory Cleary in the Tipperary Youth Raceday Handicap.
And top-weight My Good Brother should go close in the sprint handicap providing he builds on his seasonal debut third behind Bubbly Bellini and Russian Soul at Dundalk two weeks ago.
