O’Brien’s Ship to sail home in Killavullan Stakes

Aidan O’Brien’s once-raced Royal Navy Ship is hard enough to oppose in the featured Group 3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown this afternoon.

The son of War Front was well touted, and well backed, when making his debut at the Curragh 13 days ago.

He didn’t disappoint, powering to a length and a half defeat of his stable companion, Jacobean, who contests the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster today.

Making the step up from a maiden to Stakes company is normally a big ask, but this does look a weak contest.

O’Brien’s Facade, with Michael Hussey in the plate, gets the nap in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies’ Maiden, having caught the eye when fourth to another Ballydoyle inmate, Together Forever, at Gowran Park.

Another of O’Brien’s, Giovanni Canaletto, has to get the vote in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden for colts and geldings.

He was essentially backed as if defeat was out of the question at Navan, but could only finish third behind Kevin Prendergast’s Mohaayed. The sixth then, Harold Peto, boosted the form when scoring at Navan on Wednesday.

The Listed Trigo Stakes is best left to the mud-loving Vote Often. She has been rested since taking third behind Marvellous and Lightning Thunder in the Irish 1000 Guineas in May, but the way Dermot Weld’s horses are running will surely strip fit and fancied.

At Galway tomorrow, Weld’s Windsor Park is fancied to have the legs on Aidan O’Brien’s Marchese Marconi in the www.swordsecurity.com Race.

The dual bumper winner took a modest contest on the flat at Gowran Park last time and is a horse with a lot of potential.

At Leopardstown tomorrow, Weld’s Afternoon Sunlight is the choice in the Listed thetote.com Knockaire Stakes. At home on a soft surface, she seemed to find ten furlongs further than she wanted to travel when half a length second to Parish Hall at the Curragh in July.

Jim Bolger’s Stellar Glow disappointed when only third to Qualify and Lola Beaux in a Group 3 at the Curragh, but lost a shoe then and is worth another chance in the Tote Pick6 Races 1 To 6 EBF Fillies Maiden.

Arthur Moore’ Hannah’s Magic, who won in a canter at Navan on Wednesday, can defy a 5lbs penalty in the Bet Online At thetote.com Handicap.

Call Rog, impressive when scoring at Sligo, could well make light of a 5lbs rise in the weights in the Casey Precast Handicap Chase at Wexford today.
