Chief Suspect ready to strike

The progressive can get off the mark at the fourth attempt in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden at Down Royal tonight.

Trained by Jane Foley in Co Carlow, the son of Dandy Man has improved with each of his outings and should now be ready to strike.

His latest performance was his best, coming at Dundalk over this trip, seven furlongs, 26-days ago. Quickly into stride, the selection tried to make all of the running, tactics that looked set to succeed for most of the journey. It wasn’t to be, however, and Chief Suspect was mugged close home and beaten the minimum margin, a nose, into second, by Refusetolisten.

Foley’s gelding gets the nap, with his most interesting challenger, arguably, Mutawed. Joseph O’Brien is a significant booking for a horse last seen when trained by Freddie Head to finish third at Chantilly in June.

Johnny Murtagh’s Kasbah has to get the vote in the opening Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden for juveniles.

He is certainly taking a decent drop in class, having performed with real credit when fifth to William Haggas’ Mubtaghaa in a valuable sales race at York last month.

Dermot Weld’s Notable Graduate, runner-up behind Carraroe Flyer over two miles at Dundalk last Sunday, should relish the extra two furlongs of the Attheraces Ulster Cesarewitch and gets the vote.
