As the Curragh prepares to stage the 100th running of the Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger, one famous horse can enjoy some down-time with his legacy secure for many more years to come.

A decade ago this weekend, Vinnie Roe was being prepared for his fourth consecutive victory in the Irish Classic, which opened up to all-aged competition in 1983.

Since then, Vintage Crop, Oscar Schindler and Kayf Tara managed back-to-back victories but nothing close to this stayer of Dermot Weld’s.
