O’Brien’s Jamaica set to thwart Weld bid for 23rd win
On this occasion Weld saddles a son of Harlan's Holiday, Postulation, and he is obviously entitled to the utmost respect, with just one promising run under his belt.
Aidan's O’Brien’s Jamaica, however, also once raced, is napped to beat Postulation, in what promises to be a really fascinating tussle both in the betting ring and on the track.
The pair made their debuts in the same maiden at the Curragh, won by another O’Brien inmate, Gleneagles.
Jamiaca finished third and was just under two lengths in front of Postulation, who filled sixth place.
O’Brien’s colt, a son of Galileo, particularly caught the eye, though, and is given preference.
Feature event is the two-mile Connacht Hotel Handicap and another O’Brien inmate, Marchese Marconi, is a hopeful choice in a typically wide-open Ballybrit puzzle.
The selection warmed up for this with a game effort when outstaying Fire Fighter over a mile and six at Limerick last time.
He didn’t go up in the weights for that and, indeed, competes off the same mark as when second in the 30-runner Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh back in October.
John Oxx’s Primogeniture, who did us a real favour when scoring at Fairyhouse just over two weeks ago, is again the choice in the Pillo Hotel Handicap.
Running over a mile and a half for the first time, he powered through late to beat Captain Teemo by three parts of a length.
Johyn Oxx’s charge went up 5lbs for that and one can envisage him being right at home when it comes to facing the hill before the home turn!
