Newsletter out to deliver
The daughter of Sir Percy is the only female in the six-runner field but goes for Group Three honours over an extended six furlongs on the back of a highly-creditable third place in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Trainer Ken Condon is happy for her to take her chance and has booked Pat Smullen as Shane Foley, who has partnered Newsletter in all her three races so far, is required for the Michael Halford-trained Toscanini.
âWe were delighted with her run at Royal Ascot. Sheâs come out of the race and has improved again since,â said the County Kildare handler.
âShe is training very nicely, sheâs growing away and she looks particularly well now.
âHer pedigree suggests the trip should be no problem. Sheâs getting more relaxed in her work. If thereâs a good even gallop weâd be happy with that.
âPat (Smullen) will be able to get her out and take his time to get her relaxed. The ground is on the quick side which she likes, so weâre looking forward to it.
âWeâre taking on the colts but Fire Lily won it a couple of years ago, so weâre not worried on that score. We were thinking of the Princess Margaret (at Ascot next weekend) but that would mean her being away for three or four days.
âThis is on our doorstep. We were forecast to get a lot of rain on Thursday night but it didnât materialise. It looks like itâs going to be fine for her. Sheâs in great shape and we thought weâd support our home race.â
Toscanini, owned by Godolphin, also ran well at the Royal meeting, finishing second in the Chesham.
